Search Engine Optimization, What does that mean?

Search Engine Optimization is the strategy and effort in positioning your website to be top ranked in the organic listings of Google and Bing.

Part 1:  Onsite Optimization

By including your target keywords in the onsite elements of your website such as your title tags and URLs you can help the search engines and your prospective customers find your website.  These elements are the fundamentals of Search Engine Optimization.

Part 2:  Content Development

If your website is about “Blueberry Muffins” then it would make sense and it would be expected that the pages of your website would contain the words “Blueberry Muffins”, right?  The expectation of the search engines would be that a popular website about “Blueberry Muffins” would continue to grow over time in the number of pages and that most of those pages would be about “Blueberry Muffins”.  This concept is why content development is a critical part of Search Engine Optimization.  Here is a great example, read this article about Atlanta SEO or read this one about Charleston SEO.

Part 3:  Linking Strategy

Linking strategy is the most important part (and the most labor intensive part) of Search Engine Optimization.  How many websites link to your website?  How do these websites describe your website in both the title (anchor text or hyperlink) and their description following it.  The description explains why this website has decided to link to your website.  This is how search engines determine your website’s popularity.
